Sky Sports pundit delighted by Everton boss Frank Lampard reaction to Lewis Warrington
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Everton youngster Lewis Warrington has made a “really good impression” on Frank Lampard which Kevin Campbell sees as a positive development.
The teenager almost became a free agent earlier this summer before signing a new contract, and despite his previous experience amounting to half a season in League Two with Tranmere earlier this year he appears to be set for a first team role as the club resist offers to loan him out again [i News].
With success in strengthening via the transfer window proving to be a real struggle it could be seen as concerning that a relatively unproven 19-year-old has been elevated so quickly, but Sky Sports pundit Campbell isn’t having any of that and is pleased to see the progression.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News he said: “Well you can look on it any way you want to. You can look on it positive, or you can look on it negative.
“I think it’s a positive. The young man must have made a really good impression on the manager, and the manager feels being in and around the team, the young man’s going to develop a lot better than being out on loan.
“Because one thing you can’t guarantee if you go out on loan is that you’re going to play.
“Now if you’re in and around the team, even with Anthony Gordon, the manager’s shown if he believes in you he’s going to play you.
“So you never know, the young man might get some minutes, and if he performs then it’s another one off the conveyor belt isn’t it?
“You know me, I like to look at it as a positive.
“The young man’s gone on loan. He’s done well. He’s come back with the first team and he’s not overawed by anything.
“He’s showing himself and the manager respects that, so good on him.”

Lampard needs help wherever he can find it since deals for new players keep floundering, and if that means dipping into a pool of players who would otherwise not be ready for the first team he appears to be willing to do so.
It is a sign of the times around Goodison that this is the case, but if Warrington has stood out enough to put himself in contention he has to be commended for that.
Gordon has indeed blossomed into one of the stars of the team so if his younger teammate can do the same everyone at Everton will be delighted, but they would also probably feel more reassured if some reinforcements arrive in addition.
