Sky Sports pundit tells Everton to follow up interest in exit-bound Inter striker Edin Dzeko

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Everton should follow up their reported interest in Inter striker Edin Dzeko because he would be a “really good signing” says Kevin Campbell.

Gazetta dello Sport reported on 13 July that the Bosnian forward is set to leave Milan after the return of Romelu Lukaku, and the Toffees were one of the three Premier League sides who were looking at him as they seek to improve their goalscoring output after the sale of Richarlison.

Despite being 36 now the former Roma and Manchester City hitman has Premier League experience and hasn’t failed to register double-figures in a season since his final campaign at the Etihad eight years ago, and Sky Sports pundit Campbell thinks he could be just the answer to the club’s problems.

“I like Dzeko, I think Dzeko’s a good player,” he said, speaking exclusively to Goodison News.

“Even at 36 I think he still has something to offer Everton Football Club.

“[Dominic] Calvert-Lewin, let’s be brutally honest, Calvert-Lewin’s season last season was decimated with injury.

“[Salomon] Rondon wasn’t the answer.

“And without Richarlison now who do you really turn to?

“You need somebody up there who could stick the ball away, so I think Dzeko would be a really good signing.

“And one that could surprise a few.”

Right now Frank Lampard is essentially banking on Calvert-Lewin returning to the form that made him an England international, after a miserable season personally.

If he is unable to do that then there is a major dearth of firepower now that Brazilian star Richarlison is at Spurs.

While Ellis Simms could be in line to step up it would be a lot to ask of him to become a star immediately, and with Dzeko’s record showing well over 300 club goals in addition to 63 international strikes, and still apparently not slowing down yet, it makes a lot of sense.

With his side looking to get rid of him among a number of players to raise funds [Daily Mail] he is also definitely available which should make a big difference in this frustrating transfer window.
