Everton on ropes in race to sign Alassane Plea as Euro club close to breakthrough

Everton may have missed out on another transfer target for the summer with Fenerbahce rapidly progressing towards an agreement.

The player in question is Borussia Monchengladbach attacker Alassane Plea who the Toffees are in the race to sign, as reported by L’Equipe, and he would be available for a very cheap price.

The Bundesliga side were thought to have put an asking price of £6.8million on the one-time French international but the Turkish side appear to have managed to lower that number considerably.

According to Fanatik, Fenerbahce have increased their offer for the 29-year-old from £3.3million to £3.8million and that an agreement with Gladbach is getting ever closer.

Plea is even expected to make the pilgrimage to Istanbul soon and respond to the Yellow and Blue’s three-year deal as he enters the final 12 months of his contract at Borussia Park.

Everton though have not made any advances to sign the player who started to find his best form at the end of the 2021-22 campaign in helping Gladbach to 10th in the German top flight.

It seems a baffling stance to take given how little they would have to spend in terms of a transfer fee and that Frank Lampard needs to find a replacement for Richarlison after he was sold to Tottenham Hotspur for £60million.

There has been no reinvestment into the squad yet from Farhad Moshiri despite the big influx in cash that the Brazilian caused and with less than two weeks until the season begins, you could forgive Lampard for getting a little worried at the lack of movement on all fronts.

Plea was the perfect man to replace Richarlison too as he also likes to play in the attack off the left flank while also being able to play through the middle as a conventional striker – where Richarlison was very effective under Lampard at the end of last season.
