Everton shed wage bill with £80million exodus this summer but still only sign James Tarkowski

Everton have helped their wage bill massively by shedding £80million worth of talent this summer, according to the Sunday People.

The newspaper has reported in its print edition [24 July, pg. 56] that despite the Toffees being helped, their transfer business is still looking incredibly light.

James Tarkowski is still the only new arrival at Goodison Park, and that was on a free transfer meaning no actual money has yet been spent by Farhad Moshiri.

Writing in his latest snippet for the weekend newspaper, Richard Buxton shared a little insight into the problems faced with Moshiri still at the helm.

“The club’s wage bill has been helped by shedding more than £80million worth of players,” he wrote.

“But they remain thin on reinforcements, with James Tarkowski constituting their only transfer business to date.”

Everton

Poor.

This just escalates how bad of a situation we are really in financially.

Moshiri is the reason behind this mess, throwing money around with no real purpose for far too many years, and it has finally caught up with not just him, but the club too.

Everton are in a real hole at this moment in time financially, and the fact that Tarkowski has been the only new arrival on a free, proves that more than anything.

Names do keep appearing such as Morgan Gibbs-White, Leander Dendoncker and Maxwel Cornet, but the Toffees of old would have already got those deals over the line.

The financial fair play rules are taking their toll and with Premier League approval likely needed for any big spending, this is something that frank Lampard simply has to get used to.

With £80million worth of players finally cut loose this summer after years of needing it, hopefully, we can start to look upwards and away from all of this mess.

Either way, it’s going to take years to recover.
