Paul Clement challenges Everton to help Frank Lampard out in the transfer window

Everton first-team coach Paul Clement has declared that the club need to help Frank Lampard out in an interview with the Liverpool Echo.

Clement arrived at Everton in January, almost exactly one year after being sacked by Cercle Brugge, and helped as the club secured Premier League survival.

The Toffees have been static in the transfer market this summer, and Clement has told the Liverpool Echo that the board need to help Lampard out with transfers this summer.

“He has the ability to take us forward, but he needs help with it,” he said.

“That help needs to come from the club because he needs support with what goes on behind the scenes and with the players.

“The players are the most important thing and the squad needs freshening up.”

Would take a miracle

While Clement’s sentiment is shared by all connected with Everton, it would surely take nothing short of a miracle to get the funds Everton need.

It is obvious that Lampard’s squad needs major surgery, let alone freshening up, yet the club’s financial situation has paralysed them in the transfer market.

Years of mismanagement, overpaying for expensive duds and sacking managers at will has driven the club into the ground, leading to the mess we see at Goodison Park now.

The club have made attempts to sign Morgan Gibbs-White and Maxwel Cornet but are struggling to compete on a financial level.

James Tarkowski has been Everton’s only signing so far this summer, who on the surface is a very shrewd transfer.

Lampard and Kevin Thelwell are going to have to spend the coming weeks scouring the market for cheap signings to improve the squad, most likely on loan.

Chelsea striker Armando Broja could be an option, with iNews reporting on Sunday evening (24 July) that Everton are considering a loan approach.

Whoever they sign, they will need to come in quick with the Premier League season kicking off in less than a fortnight.
