Everton face Levi Colwill blow with Chelsea set to miss out on Jules Kounde

Chelsea are set to miss out on Sevilla defender Jules Kounde and that could be a huge blow to the chances of Everton signing Levi Colwill.

The Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano suggested (via his YouTube channel) on (18 July) that Everton, along with Southampton are “keen” on the defender.

However, any move for the defender will need Chelsea to add to their defensive ranks this summer.

It had been suggested by The Guardian (22 July) that Thomas Tuchel was set to land 23-year-old Kounde, in a deal that could’ve allowed Colwill to leave the club.

However, Jacob Steinberg has now revealed (25 July) that Barcelona’s renewed interest has left Chelsea’s move in tatters and in turn, could well impact Everton’s chance of landing Colwill.

A move for the 19-year-old could’ve been on the cards with Frank Lampard potentially using his links to his former club to draw the former Huddersfield man to Goodison Park.

Lampard cannot wait for transfers higher up in the food chain to fall into place before adding to his squad.

Evertonians will be eager for at least three or four new additions before the transfer window slams shut in September.

But on a more positive note, after a disappointing preseason, the Toffees’ 4-2 win at Blackpool saw a number of Lampard’s squad shine and potentially lower the level of concern around the club.

Nathan Patterson has proven to be a revelation in preseason and is the epitome of what the Toffees need to be targeting this summer.

Colwill is of a similar ilk and it would be refreshing for at least one or two younger players to be added to Lampard’s squad, but this one looks to be moving further away.
