Everton want to sign Burnley winger Dwight McNeil, talks ongoing – John Percy

Everton are in talks with Burnley for winger Dwight McNeil and are hopeful of agreeing a deal for a transfer, according to John Percy.

The Toffees have so far completed two signings this summer, adding James Tarkowski and Ruben Vinagre to their squad ahead of the new Premier League season next week.

But the club are now looking to add another player from Burnley after the Tarkowski deal, with Telegraph journalist Percy reporting that negotiations are ongoing for England Under-21 international McNeil.

McNeil has been linked with an exit from Turf Moor since Burnley were relegated at the end of the 2021/22 season, with a fee of around £15m mooted by reports.

Everton have been linked with several wingers, including McNeil’s teammate Maxwel Cornet, but it seems that this deal could be about to take off.

Finally

It’s been a long time coming but it finally seems as though Frank Lampard, Kevin Thelwell and Farhad Moshiri have woken up in the transfer market.

Everton are in desperate need of additions to their squad, especially in attack, after losing Richarlison earlier in the window to Tottenham.

Anthony Gordon and Demarai Gray are the current winger options, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin expected to lead the line in attack but McNeil would provide great cover and depth for the position.

Everton

The £15m price is good value for the 22-year-old who has several years of top flight experience and also came through the academy at Manchester United, meaning he knows all about expectation.

He’s also capable of playing in central midfield which will help the club improve depth in other areas of the squad, and Everton are now seemingly the front-runners for the signature of a player who is in demand across the Premier League.
