Everton forward Ellis Simms will move to Sunderland on Thursday
Everton striker Ellis Simms “will sign” for Sunderland on Thursday, as per Darren Witcoop.
The Sunday Mirror journalist wrote on Twitter on 28 July that Simms will seal his move to the Championship club today, although there is no shortage of offers.
The Toffees are allowing him to go out on loan. The likes of Blackpool and Huddersfield are also pushing hard to secure his signature on a temporary deal.
Witcoop wrote on Twitter: “Everton striker Ellis Simms will sign for Sunderland today. Strong Championship interest with Blackpool and Huddersfield also pushing hard for the loan deal. Cardiff had been interested and he was on their list but club always had other irons in the fire.”
Expected
Everton needed to bolster their forward department this summer following the departure of Richarlison.
Many have thought that Simms will play some part this season as Everton are really short in numbers in their strike department.
Cenk Tosun left the club while Moise Kean doesn’t seem to have any future at Merseyside.
Salomon Rondon is an option but is hardly prolific. It leaves Dominic Calvert-Lewin as the club’s leading forward.

The Toffees have been linked with a move for Chelsea striker Armando Broja but the Blues are reluctant to let the player go this summer.
Even if Lampard brings in a striker, Simms would have been a reliable back-up option. However, the club feel otherwise.
Simms impressed heavily on loan last season at Hearts, but the Scottish club failed to sign him this season.
It seems he will spend time out on loan in the Championship, and Sunderland have won the race for his signature.
