Roma close to signing Everton target Georginio Wijnaldum

Serie A giants AS Roma are close to signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, amid interest from Everton, as reported by The Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported on their online edition on 28 July that the Giallorossi are in advanced talks to sign the Dutch midfielder on an £8million loan-to-buy agreement.

Everton showed keen interest in signing the midfielder who was left out of the French side’s pre-season tour squad.

Move on

Wijnaldum was a huge hit at Liverpool but he proved to be a big flop at PSG.

He was voted as the “Ligue 1 flop of the season” and he is now set to depart the French giants this summer.

The box-to-box midfielder struggled for minutes under Mauricio Pochettino and he was mostly used from the bench.

Everton need to bolster their midfield this summer, and Lampard appears to be working on that.

Instead of signing Wijnaldum, it looks like the Toffees are keen on another PSG midfielder who is set to leave the club as well – Idrissa Gueye.

The Senegal international was a fan favourite at Goodison Park, and he would be a handy addition to the club.

Everton probably don’t need another box-to-box midfielder, rather they need a solid defensive midfielder.

The Toffees could also look to sign an attacking-minded central midfielder as well, should they decide to sell Andre Gomes.
