Everton may need to wait a little longer for more high-profile transfers, staggered deals mooted

Everton may now have to wait before making any more high-profile transfer moves this summer, according to the Liverpool ECHO.

The newspaper reported in its print edition [28 July, pg. 42] that given the tight budget at Goodison Park, deals may need to be staggered and include lower upfront fees.

It is said that the club’s hierarchy are working away on more deals though with Dwight McNeil now done and Ruben Vinagre also arriving in the past 48 hours.

Writing in their latest transfer snippet, the Liverpool ECHO shared what to expect at Goodison Park before the September deadline which could come around quickly.

“Potential transfers that include up front fee, staggered deals and much more down the line will no doubt be tricky negotiations – and the club’s limited budget has to be taken into account,” they wrote.

“Some transfers happen quicker than others, and it seems Everton might have to wait a little longer for their high-profile moves.”

Progress.

That is all Frank Lampard will want to see this summer, and the recent arrivals of McNeil and Vinagre prove that is being made, albeit very steadily.

Squad depth has been a huge issue as of yet, but adding more in defence alongside James Tarkowski too will certainly help in that department.

The signing of McNeil helps somewhat towards replacing Richarlison, but given it is still one in, one out, another new face will certainly be needed in the final third.

Another area of concern is of course defensive midfield, with talks already said to be underway over a reunion with Idrissa Gueye as Paris Saint-Germain [iNews].

Should that be a loan move, it could open up the chance to spend funds, likely split up over many years, on another attacker that, dare we say it, maybe even completes the squad.

That Chelsea game is approaching very quickly though, and it appears unlikely right now that all of our summer business will be concluded before then.
