Everton midfield now top of transfer agenda as talks deepen for Idrissa Gueye

Everton have moved on to signing a new midfielder as their new priority this summer, according to iNews.

Dwight McNeil arrived at Goodison Park on Thursday as the third new signing of the window in a deal worth around £20million, and Frank Lampard has already moved on.

Talks are already underway over a potential Goodison Park return for Idrissa Gueye as the Toffees finally look to bring in a number six, something that has been missing for years now.

Writing in his latest Northern Notebook this week, Mark Douglas shared the latest news coming from Goodison Park as they target another new arrival.

“Everton are set to turn their focus to landing a central midfielder after completing a £20million move for Burnley’s Dwight McNeil,” he wrote.

“Everton’s focus is now on bolstering the spine of Frank Lampard’s side, with a midfielder at the top of the agenda. The club have been offered Paris Saint Germain’s Idrissa Gueye and talks over a potential return to Goodison Park have taken place.”

Masterclass?

One thing that has haunted the club in recent years is bringing in players who don’t know what it means to wear this famous blue shirt, with their passions seriously lacking.

Gueye knows exactly what it means, and would bring everything we have not had in midfield for years.

Lampard will be desperate for that new holding midfielder, as it may help bring the best out of Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure ahead of that number six, as both have struggled.

One problem is that it has been many years since Gueye moved away and he simply won’t be the same player, but he will bring that winning mentality from Paris Saint-Germain along with him should it happen.

If a loan move can be brokered, it would be very low risk, with PSG no doubt willing to pay some or if not most of his wages to get him away from the club.

This is certainly one to watch in the coming days as we look for more reinforcements.
