Everton still keen to sign Maxwel Cornet, negotiation proves tricky

Everton are still keen to sign Burnley winger Maxwel Cornet but they face genuine competition from Newcastle United, as per Fraser Fletcher.

The journalist who has worked for BBC Sport suggested on Twitter on 29 July that negotiation with Burnley is proving tricky although the player has given verbal agreement.

The Toffees have been heavily linked with a move for the Burnley winger who can also play as a striker.

Fletcher wrote on Twitter: “Newcastle now well and truly in the running for Maxwel Cornet. Everton still keen to land him and have verbal agreement on player side but negotiations with Burnley tricky. Cornet at this point could still end up at any club.”

Get it done

As per But! Football Club journalist Ignazio Genuardi, the Toffees have agreed a five-year deal with Cornet worth £67,000 per-week.

A host of clubs are vying for his signature after Burnley got relegated to the Championship last season. He has £17.5m release clause, and negotiations are proving to be tricky.

Everton have already added a quality attacking midfielder in the form of Dwight McNeil, and they are now looking to add another creative player following the departure of Richarlison.

Everton

Apparently, it would have been very easy for the Toffees to just pay up the release clause and do away with it, but they are making it harder by trying to negotiate and lower the asking price.

With Newcastle now joining the race, the task will only get difficult, as the Magpies can lure the player with a better wage package, and also meet the asking price.

The Toffees need to add more quality players to their ranks, and they must meet the asking price and secure his signature at the earliest.
