Jamie Carragher worries about Everton chances after transfer business

Everton have begun to accelerate their transfer business but Jamie Carragher is still not convinced things will be rosy at Goodison Park this season.

Dwight McNeil became the Toffees’ third new recruit after signing from Burnley to join James Tarkowski in that particular move while Ruben Vinagre also arrived at Finch Farm to add strength at left-back.

Carragher, a former Liverpool player, likes the two recruits from Turf Moor but he still expressed his concern for Frank Lampard in a Twitter Space for Football Daily.

Everton

“To be honest a week ago it felt very worrying for Everton with what was going to happen, who they were going to replace, I still think it’ll be a tough season for them in terms of there will be weekends where they’re getting beat and they’re not getting the result that they want.

“I think they’ve got the two best players out of Burnley, you might say Burnley got relegated but I’m a big fan of Tarkowski, I have been for a number of years and I’ve always felt Dwight McNeil, I don’t want to sound disrespectful to Burnley, but he was always a classy player in a rough and tough Burnley team.

“Richarlison is going to be a huge miss and you dread to think what would happen if Calvert-Lewin was out for a month or six weeks with a slight knock as he normally seems to be every season. I fear for them that it’d be another tough season.”

More to come

At this moment in time, with only seven days to go before our Premier League campaign kicks off at home to Chelsea, it does look alarming that only three new signings have been made so far.

Everton

Everton had such a poor 2021-22 season that they needed to make a big overhaul of the squad over the summer but with their financial fair play problems to think about, everything has had to be delayed as a result.

Luckily for Lampard and Evertonians everywhere, the Premier League standings are not finalised in August so they have plenty of time still to make more new signings to spur them on to greater things this time around.

It wouldn’t hurt to look away from Burnley for their next summer addition though having already nabbed the best two options available.

After all, the Clarets were the ones relegated last season so do Everton really want all of their players after the failure they endured?
