Sky Sports pundit impressed by Everton pursuit of under-the-radar Leander Dendoncker

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

It would be a “good move” for Everton to sign Wolves midfielder Leander Dendocker because he could slot straight in, according to Kevin Campbell.

Fabrizio Romano reported on 22 July that the Toffees were exploring the option of signing the 27-year-old Belgian, having previously chased his Molineux teammate Morgan Gibbs-White.

But while the pursuit of the younger man has stalled Sky Sports pundit Campbell thinks a move for Dendoncker would make a lot of sense due to his experience and his contract status, with currently just a year left on his deal, as a player who goes under the radar in the Premier League..

On the fact that Gibbs-White might be getting more press, he told Goodison News: “Yeah because of his age, and his attacking prowess.

“I think Denconcker, I think he goes a bit unnoticed at Wolves!

“He gets goals and he does a really good job at Wolves. And he’s done if for years.

“You don’t really hear anybody saying too much about him.

“So I think that would be a good signing. Knows the Premier League. Premier League ready. Can just go straight in.

“Again, one year left on his contract, it’s not going to be crazy money.

“He’d be a good move.”

The Belgium international has made over 100 appearances in the English top flight and plays in an area where Frank Lampard is looking to add reliable options, having previously been in for Lille wonderkid Amadou Onana.

Somebody who doesn’t draw any attention to themselves and quietly goes about their business could be exactly who the club needs in that position currently.

And following Everton successfully signing Dwight McNeil from Burnley after running into difficulties trying to buy his teammate Maxwel Cornet, perhaps a similar dynamic could be on the cards at Wolves if Dendoncker were to arrive after Gibbs-White proved such a struggle.
