Everton: Leon Osman makes demand of Anthony Gordon ahead of 22/23 season

Among the disappointment of the 2021-22 season, Everton did have one shining light who often put a smile on the faces of the fans.

That player was young winger Anthony Gordon who showed great courage and skill to get people at Goodison Park on their feet while much of the squad was dreadfully flat n contrast.

Former Toffee Leon Osman wants to see the 21-year-old find another level this season with Everton needing to improve on the dismal form that nearly saw them go down to the Championship.

“By working exactly as he has done, by wanting more, by striving for more and to improve himself,” Osman said to the Liverpool Echo.

“Second seasons are generally more difficult, people have seen your tricks and seen how you work so sometimes you just have to change and adapt a little bit to see what is coming.

“He is a smart enough footballer to be able to keep improving and stay on that upward curve. Who knows what his limit could be? But he has to not look for that limit right now.

“He has to keep progressing on a daily and weekly basis, making sure he is fit, making sure he is all worked up for the weekend and that he knows exactly what he is going to do so he can go out and perform.”

A lot of Frank Lampard’s hopes in attack will be hanging on the local lad to produce similarly electrifying performances this season to help create the chances for his fellow teammates as well as some of his own.

Everton no longer have Richarlison to come up with something out of nothing but Dwight McNeil can offer a deadly delivery in his place which takes some of the pressure off the youngster.

But it is no secret that he is going to be starting the majority of games this season barring a big injury or huge new signing from out of the blue before the window closes and that is a lot for such a young player.

Lampard will be crossing his fingers that the good times of last season were not a flash in the pan because if he fails to meet those same heights of performance at the start of the new campaign, panic could easily set in at Goodison Park.
