Everton make Idrissa Gana Gueye give in as deal nears closure

Senegal international Idrissa Gana Gueye “ended up giving in to advances of Everton” as he nears a return to Merseyside, according to Ignazio Genuardi.

The 32-year-old has been a regular for Paris Saint-Germain ever since his £30million move from Goodison Park to the French capital in 2019 but is now considered surplus to requirements at the Parc Des Princes [The Times].

Gueye’s impending move back to the Toffees could also allow Jean-Philippe Gbamin to leave the club after three injury-filled years at the club that consisted of just nine appearances.

Everton

The Ivorian was originally signed as Gueye’s replacement in 2019 for £25million from Mainz but he has failed to live up to the bill which has spurred Frank Lampard to try and bring the Senegalese man back.

It is now only small details that are left to sort out before he becomes an Everton player for the second time and he will be available to play the opening game of the season against Chelsea on Saturday.

Steel

For a number of years, basically since Gueye left to join the dominant club in French football, the Toffees have lacked that grit in the midfield which is key to being resolute when your backs are against the wall.

Allan is more of a playmaker in the holding midfield role and Abdoulaye Doucoure is much more of a box-to-box type player than one who will sit and be the destroyer.

Everton

Lampard will have noticed that last season and wished that he had been able to sign one as relegation started Everton in the face but now he finally has the chance to make that move.

The financial problems the club have been going through have put a long pause on his attempts to make that signing but he has finally got the chance to do so and Gueye is the man he desires.

There is still a lot more to do before the transfer window closes but this would be one big hole filled in Lampard’s summer masterplan.
