Everton move for Michy Batshuayi not on as medical now pending for Idrissa Gueye

Everton are not pursuing a move for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi despite reports suggesting otherwise, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper has reported in its print edition [02 August, pg. 72] that the Belgian international won’t be at Goodison Park, but Idrissa Gueye is closing in.

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder is set for his reunion in Merseyside years after leaving, with just the medical now pending before the announcement.

Writing in his latest Window Watch column, Simon Jones has shared the latest on transfers for the Toffees, as they look to strengthen ahead of the season opener.

“Everton are close to agreeing a deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Idrissa Gueye to return to the club, pending a medical,” he wrote.

“Everton are not pursuing a move for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi.”

Priorities.

Everton are going through each area of their squad and making sure that the reinforcements are made where they are needed the most.

At this moment in time, midfield is where Frank Lampard is desperate for not only one, but a couple of new faces to bolster his options, with Gueye set to be the first.

The Toffees are said to have agreed to terms with the Senegalese enforcer, and his return to the club should be announced sooner rather than later this week.

Batshuayi is not the man to take this club forward, anyone can see that, with his lack of football over the years surely taking away from any sort of impact he could have.

With Dwight McNeil already arriving and Dominic Calvert-Lewin starting to fire towards the end of pre-season, there isn’t a desperate need for a striker.

That will come eventually in the coming weeks, but for now, let’s sort this midfield.
