PSG want Idrissa Gana Gueye out by end of week as Everton move nears
Paris Saint-Germain want Idrissa Gana Gueye to leave the Parc Des Princes for a move to Everton by the end of the week, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations winner with Senegal is nearing his return to Goodison Park having left the club for the French champions for £30million in 2019.
Romano wrote in his Caught Offside column on 2 August that the 32-year-old was ready to jet out to Merseyside to conduct his medical having agreed personal terms with the Toffees.
PSG are actively trying to get this deal to be completed as soon as possible though as they now want both him and Georginio Wijnaldum to leave the French capital this week.
Gueye’s return to Everton would allow Ivorian international Jean-Philippe Gbamin to leave the club after three injured-filled years on Merseyside after a £25million move from Mainz [The Times].
No matter how fancy a team wants to play and the tricksters available to them, no one can be truly successful without a proper workhorse in the midfield who is willing to get stuck into whatever challenge comes his way.
Everton badly lacked that last season and it told in the finishing position of 16th and Frank Lampard does not want that same problem to occur this time around.
Gueye has not really been replaced in the three seasons he has been gone and now he is going to be his own replacement after Gbamin’s failure and Allan’s passiveness in too many games.
Abdoulaye Doucoure is perhaps the closest thing the Toffees had to a destroyer in the midfield last season but he is far more effective when he has the license to bomb forward in a Yaya Toure-esque fashion.
He needs that reassurance that the Senegalese international brings to find his best form and if he does complete his move this week, Gueye could be the best bit of business Everton do all summer.
