Amadou Onana to jet into UK for Everton transfer in next 48 hours, he'll be left out of Lille squad
Lille midfielder Amadou Onana will jet into the UK over the weekend to complete his move to Everton, according to L‘Equipe.
The French newspaper reported via their website on Friday (5 August) that Onana, 20, will be left out of Lille’s squad for their Ligue 1 opener against Auxerre on Sunday (7 August) so that he can wrap up his move to Merseyside.
It is understood that “barring an unlikely turnaround”, the Belgium international will become Frank Lampard’s newest signing at Everton with a five-year contract on the cards.
L’Equipe adds that the fee for Onana is £30.3million plus an extra £3.3million in bonuses and a 20 per cent sell-on clause.
Everton are finally set to make a big signing.
Of course, the addition of James Tarkowski was a good one but with the signing of Onana, the Blues are signing an exciting overseas talent who should be a star for years to come on Merseyside.
Our midfield is a mess right now and we’re desperate for Lampard and Kevin Thelwell to add not only some extra bodies but also a lot of extra quality.
Onana is only 20 – he turns 21 in a couple of weeks – but he’s already got plenty of senior experience from his time at Lille and Hamburg before that while he’s also risen up the ranks of the Belgium national team to earn his first senior cap back in June.
Onana is a deep-lying midfielder so we expect his arrival to grease the wheels on a move that sees Andre Gomes move out of Goodison Park.
That can only be a good thing because Gomes’ form since his horror injury has been terrible.
This is the most exciting signing we’ve made this summer.
Dwight McNeil worries us a bit because of his lack of contribution at Burnley but Onana should be a fine addition to this squad.
