Tottenham Hotspur midfielder and reported Everton target Harry Winks has been left out of the matchday squad against Southampton.

According to Evening Standard journalist Dan Kilpatrick, the England international has been transfer listed at Spurs and manager Antonio Conte sees no reason to include him in the team.

The Toffees have been in talks to sign him this summer and were pursuing a loan-to-buy agreement with the North London side. [Scottish Sun (25 June, 16:50)]

Via Twitter, Kilpatrick wrote, “No place in squad for transfer listed Ndombele, Lo Celso, Winks or Reguilon in the squad, nor Tanganga or Sarr.”

Goodison Park bound?

The Toffees need to sign at least two midfielders this summer and seem to have their priorities set already.

Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye both appear to be heading to Goodison Park this summer.

While the former is an option for the present and the future, the latter is unlikely to be at the club for more than a couple of seasons.

Signing Winks would give the Toffees an added body in midfield and they will not be spending too much if they are getting him on loan.

Spurs desperately want to get him off their wage bill and the player would certainly be willing to work under one of the best midfielders of the Premier League era.

It remains to be seen if Everton still pursue a move for him or any chances of signing him are now dead in the water.

Lampard would work wonders with him and help get his career back on track.
