Frank Lampard believes Everton expected new signing Amadou Onana will have a “big future” at the club.

Lampard, while talking to Sky Sports Main Event (6 August, 07:50pm) after the team’s defeat against Chelsea in the season opener on Saturday (7 August), heaps praise on Onana who according to him is an “all-rounder”.

“I can talk about Onana because he was there [in the stands],” he said. “[He will bring] a lot. I am a big fan and that’s why he is coming. When you come in as a manager, you want to influence the team, style and the way we play.

“In terms of a midfield player, a young player that has everything for me in terms of physicality, quality of the ball, energy and defensive mindset, an all-rounder for us. For me, a big future and he will have a big impact on the club.”

Big words

Those words will definitely excite Everton fans as their club is now edging closer to completing a blockbuster signing.

Interestingly, his arrival is at the same time when the Toffees are closing in on another defensive midfielder’s recruitment in Idrissa Gana Gueye from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

It shows that Lampard must be thinking, not only about the present as Onana will be competing with the likes of Allan who is already at the club and the 32-year-old who has performed really well previously at the Goodison Park, but for the future as well.

In the recent past, the Merseyside club have made a number of expensive signings and none of them really produced the kind of performances that was expected of them and therefore, the fans will be hoping that will not be the case this time around.
