Andy Gray demands Frank Lampard to ‘find a way’ at Everton

Despite a spirited performance, Everton suffered defeat on the opening day of the new Premier League season at the hands of Chelsea.

Italian international Jorginho scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot in an encounter with little attacking excitement to shout about from either dugout.

Andy Gray though was not in any mood to have sympathy with the Toffees as he made very early demands of Frank Lampard moments after the final whistle on BeIN Sports.

“Everton are where they are for a reason,” Gray said. “That’s because they have had a real tumultuous 12 months, in particular.

“It has been going downhill and it’s been like that and threatening that for some years now. The recruitment has not been good enough if you want to go down the long path.

“We have a group in charge now though with Frank Lampard and his coaching staff and with players who definitely underachieved last year. He has got to find a way.”

One game

It is paramount at this extremely early stage in the season that people don’t get suckered into Gray’s dramatic beliefs and nobody panics with 37 games still to play.

Everton

Chelsea are one of the best sides in the country and have made a couple of impressive additions in Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly so they were always going to be a tough team to open against.

After the awful displays of last season, positives have to be taken that a side who came third last time around behind Manchester City and Liverpool had to rely on a penalty to beat Everton.

That same game last season could have easily been a drubbing before Lampard rallied the troops towards the end of the campaign but it wasn’t.

There might not be any points next to Everton’s name on the table but play like that against someone like Aston Villa and the results will come.
