Everton may need to start considering future of Calvert-Lewin

Everton striker Dominic Calvert Lewin has suffered another injury that could see him miss up to six weeks, and the Toffees should start to be worried.

The Daily Mail reported that the England international could miss up to six weeks of the new season after suffering a knee injury in training.

This new injury puts Everton in a dire situation offensively, and the Toffees may need to start considering the striker’s future at the club, as his reliability begins to decrease.

Everton should start to be worried .

Calvert-Lewin when fit, is still a fantastic striker, with immense aerial ability, and fantastic link-up play while also possessing impressive pressing ability despite his tall frame.

He is able to run the channels and win free kicks while also being a target for Jordan Pickford to hit when Everton need to play route one football and get out of a tough position.

However, his fitness status has been brought into question and the newest injury he has suffered has revived that discussion.

Since signing for the club six years ago, he has missed 34 games due to injury total, which does not sound that bad, until you contextualise the injury record.

In his first three seasons for the club, the former Sheffield United and Northampton frontman missed 13 games in total, missing an average 4.3 games a season due to injury. [Transfermarkt]

However, in the last two years, he has missed 18 games due to injury, with his toe injury from last season severely limiting his game time and being a major factor in why Everton performed so poorly last term. [Transfermarkt]

The club are already light up front and cannot afford to have their star striker miss 24% of their games, especially without an adequate back-up striker.

If his injury record does not improve, the club may need to consider the frontman’s future or make serious consideration of buying a new reserve striker for when Calvert-Lewin inevitably misses games.
