Everton reach agreement in principle to sign Conor Coady as Fabrizio Romano drops personal terms update

Everton are on the verge of agreeing personal terms with Conor Coady as they close in on a deal to sign the Wolves captain, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Sunday (7 August), the Guardian journalist claims that the Blues have struck an “agreement in principle” to sign the 29-year-old on an initial loan deal with a clause tied in that could make the defender’s move to Goodison Park permanent in the future.

Romano adds that Merseyside-born Coady is keen on the move to the blue side of Stanley Park despite his previous spell at Liverpool.

It is understood that Amadou Onana of Lille will soon “be announced” as a new Everton player.

Another one through the door

Everton have already agreed a deal for 20-year-old Belgium midfielder Onana [90min] while Sky Sports have added that Paris Saint-Germain’s Idrissa Gueye is on his way back to Goodison Park with that deal at an advanced stage.

Frank Lampard has already added James Tarkowski and Dwight McNeil to his squad this summer and the triple swoop for Coady, Onana and Gueye will further bolster his squad.

If you look at those five players’ names, all of them could do a job for the Blues.

Not all of them blow us away, admittedly, but the biggest and most important additions there are surly Tarkowski, Coady and Onana because they will hopefully sort out our defensive side to the game massively.

Once they’re all wrapped up, it’s over to Lampard and Kevin Thelwell to find a new striker with Dominic Calvert-Lewin injured – again.

Salomon Rondon isn’t good enough to step in when DCL is out and we also have doubts about whether the England striker can hack it anymore after such a disappointing 2021/22 campaign.

But Coady is a superb signing.

Well done, everyone.
