Everton hire Kieran Driscoll as major changes made behind the scenes at Goodison Park

Everton have hired Kieran Driscoll as their new Under-18s assistant manager, according to the Training Ground Guru.

Writing on their bulletin board on Tuesday (9 August), Training Ground Guru reported that Driscoll has left Wigan Athletic after eight and a half years with them.

It is understood that he’s now moved to Finch Farm with Everton’s academy undergoing “major changes” since the end of last season.

Good addition

Driscoll arrives at Everton having earned a lot of experience in the world of youth football coaching.

He started his coaching career with the Blues in 2009 as an academy coach but after just under two years, he was on his way to Wigan to coach at their centre of excellence.

Driscoll then played a development coach role at Manchester City between 2012 and 2014 before eventually ending up back at Wigan for eight years, where he ended up being the Under-18s lead coach.

He’s now the assistant to Leighton Baines in Everton’s Under-18s set-up and we’re really excited by his arrival.

There’s been a massive shift at Finch Farm since the end of last season.

Gareth Prosser is now the academy manager and is likely to have played a role in Driscoll returning to Merseyside with Everton.

Paul Tait is the new Under-23s boss and, as mentioned, ex-Everton left-back Baines is the Under-18s manager.

Let’s hope that Baines and Driscoll work well together to develop an exciting crop of youngsters at the club.

Despite all the lows of recent years, we’ve still produced top young talent such as Anthony Gordon, Eric Dier, Ross Barkley and John Lundstram.
