Everton sign Conor Coady from Wolves despite late Southampton approach
Everton won the race to sign Conor Coady from Wolves on a season-long loan with an option to buy and officially announced the deal.
However, according to 90Min, it was not all straightforward, as fellow Premier League side Southampton made a last-gasp approach to sign the English defender.
He was already spotted signing Everton jerseys before his move was made official which meant that a move to St Mary’s was not understood to be an option that late in the day.

Never in doubt
Coady was born on Merseyside so it made sense for him to return to the place where it all began for him rather than a move to the South coast.
Despite the Saints finishing higher than Everton last season, the city is more of a footballing place than Southampton and the club is historically massive in the context of the English game.
With these two sides in the race, it was clear where Coady was moving and we do see him becoming a permanent player next season because he’s expected to be one of the key players in the coming months.
It’s good to see the Toffees beating other Premier League clubs to the services of players despite being in a financial predicament and having no European football to offer.
They signed Coady ahead of Saints and West Ham and are also expected to sign Amadou Onana ahead of the Hammers.
This is massive as the London club can offer their players higher wages and also the chance to play in Europe.
