Everton are reportedly likely to make the signing of a new midfielder official today [August 9] amid recent transfer speculation.

According to Sky Sports news editor Alan Myers, the Toffees were not going to announce another player on the same day they made the Conor Coady signing official.

With Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye still left to be made official, one of the two are expected to be announced in the coming hours.

When asked about whether or not a midfielder would be announced on August 8, Myers replied, “No, maybe tomorrow.”

Excitement building

The Toffees left some of their transfer business until after the season began but are now expected to announce signings one after the other.

We will not even be surprised if they end up making a double announcement as both players appear to have finished all their formalities pre transfer.

Gueye will be an experienced presence who will be just as valuable to the dressing room as he will to the playing XI.

While he may not play every game, his influence is going to be priceless and that was one of the reasons Frank Lampard decided to bring him in.

Onana, on the other hand, looks like the player tailor-made to anchor this Toffees midfield for years to come.

He’s strong, positionally sound and has an eye for a pass – making him an ideal defensive midfielder for Lampard’s side.

Whether or not he’s thrown into the Everton starting lineup this weekend or is given time to get used to life in the Premier League, remains to be seen.
