Conor Coady shares ‘surreal’ moment he spoke to Frank Lampard ahead of Everton transfer
Conor Coady has revealed he got goosebumps when speaking to Frank Lampard about signing for Everton in a deal that came together quickly.
Coady completed a season-long loan deal from Wolves this week with an option to turn the deal permanent next summer after falling out of the manager’s plans for the coming season.
Now the England international has admitted in an interview with talkSPORT [August 10, 9:00] that he spoke to Lampard ahead of the move on the phone in what he described as a “surreal” moment, and said he hasn’t come to sit on the bench after not liking the feeling in the opening weekend of the season.

“It’s been a bit of a mad week if I’m being honest,” he said.
“The last five or six weeks have been tough,” he said. “The last five or six years I’ve been a player who has played every minute, and this pre-season I’ve done the same thing I always do.
“Then as players you start to get a bit of a vibe, something’s coming here, something’s not right. I was feeling things in training. Listen I love that football club, I love it as much as I’ve done for the last seven years. An incredible football club, a special football club, but I could feel things. I could feel something happening.
“To get this opportunity to speak to the manager at Everton was a bit surreal if I’m being honest, it was a big goosebumpy because I’m just sat on the phone speaking to Frank Lampard here.
“I’m speaking to one of the greatest English players of all time on the phone, and he’s telling me what he wants to do with Everton Football Club. It was really, really surreal.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s a World Cup year or not, I want to be playing football I don’t want to be sat on the bench.
“I got a feel for it against Leeds at the weekend and I didn’t like it. I helped the boys as much as I could, but I didn’t like it.”

Leader
Coady’s arrival has been perfectly timed after the injury that Ben Godfrey suffered at the weekend against Chelsea, but he’s more than just an extra body.
As a scouser he understands the importance of the club to the community and the fans and will be giving everything he can to be able to help the club push up the Premier League table.
But what this deal proves is that despite what some people will have you think, Lampard has been able to attract top players to the club thanks to his reputation.
Players want to play for him and with his vision for the club is resonating with new signings, which shows there is a plan in place for the season that people are buying into.
It’s not always pretty, but the fans are behind him for the coming season and with more additions like Coady confidence will grow about how it will go.
