Dean Jones: Everton set to make striker move this week

Everton are set to make a move for a striker this week as the Toffees look to rectify their forward issues according to journalist Dean Jones.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury has left Frank Lampard well short in the striking department as the new Premier League season gets underway.

Former Bleacher Report journalist Jones has suggested that the wait could be over for Evertonians with the club set to up their search for a striker.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT on Tuesday 9 August: “I know that they are definitely exploring this at moment [sic].

“I mean they’re looking at loads of stuff at the moment, to be honest with you.

“The squad has been so short of the quality that’s needed to even survive in this division, let alone do anything.

“They played okay at the weekend but they still just lacked that cutting edge, so I think this week we’ll see them make some moves in the market in terms of a striker.”

Something has to give

Things are certainly now rolling on the transfer front for Everton with Idrissa Gana Gueye potentially the next player through the door at Goodison Park according to The Times (9 August).

However, it is clear that Everton are in desperate need of a striker and will be hoping that Jones’ inclination comes true over the coming days.

If Everton can land a striker then there is every chance that they will be competitive in the Premier League this season.

Amadou Onana should prove to be an excellent pick-up for Everton, whilst Conor Coady will mean the Toffees have an extremely experienced back line.

Lampard experimented on Saturday and there were plenty of positives for the Toffees to take from the defeat to Chelsea.

They looked like a team that was together and certainly created enough chances to merit a point from the game.

Had the Everton boss had a striker to call upon on Saturday night the outcome of the match could well have been very different.

Surely something has to develop over the next couple of days.
