Everton can wait for Idrissa Gana Gueye as severance package in negotiation
Everton are currently on hold in the pursuit of midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye as the 32-year-old negotiates his own severance package from PSG.
That is according to journalist Fraser Flethcer via Twitter who reported that the deal was not off but it was taking a lot longer than the Toffees had hoped.
The Senegalese international wants to have his contract paid to some degree before he moves back to Merseyside after leaving Goodison Park for the French capital in 2019.
“Fee between clubs agreed. Contract details agrees,” Fletcher said. “Move all set to happen. Idrissa Gana Gueye has in negotiations with PSG over his severance package. Deal is NOT off, but it’s taking longer than expected.”
With a tough test away at Aston Villa on Saturday (13 August) rapidly approaching, manager Frank Lampard would probably prefer to have Gueye signed by then if he can but his arrival is not as desperate as it could have been.
The midfield problems have been somewhat rectified by the signing of 20-year-old giant Amadou Onana from Lille for £33.5million who is all set to be thrown straight into the line of fire when Everton head to Villa Park for the lunchtime kick-off.

The Belgian international is a very expensive purchase but he should solve not only the immediate issues but also provide a good base to build around for the future where he could either play a lot of games for Everton or be sold for massive money.
Gueye is not such a desperate situation now as Alex Iwobi can finally be dropped from the midfield where he has looked like a rabbit in the headlights more than once.
Abdoulaye Doucoure will likely partner Onana in the middle of the park against Steven Gerrard’s Villa side with Conor Coady potentially making his debut too in the back three.
