Dan Plumley: Everton could make real waves in metaverse as brand new FanCurve deal signed off

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...

Dan Plumley has insisted that Everton could make real waves in the Metaverse after signing off on a groundbreaking new deal with Fancurve.

The Toffees board have confirmed the deal with the chance for fans to wear digital shirts on their avatars online and show their love for the club that way.

Finance Expert, Plumley, admitted although it may sound “bizarre”, it’s a real chance for Everton to look at exclusivity within the Metaverse, which could be the next big thing.

“We would look at it and think it’s really bizarre,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“Well, it’s not for us and looking at it the other way, it’s relatively low risk and low cost and a really interesting move as there could be real growth in this area.

“These shirts are for use in the metaverse for people’s avatars, but it is a really clever play as there is clearly a market for that, we know it’s an expanding market, we know the metaverse is going to potentially be the next big thing whatever it becomes.

“So, to launch something like this now and test the water – it’s quite innovative. There is a gap there as you can start to look at exclusivity at products in the metaverse – they are big things with big brands attached.”

Fancurve are said to be building a community for the future, and it looks as though Everton will be at the heart of that, with the future of sports fashion said to change.

It will be hard to judge the success of the deal immediately, but if other clubs do start to sign up for that type of brand deal, you will know that it has been a success.

Plumley did suggest exclusivity though, so even if others did sign up, the Toffees may have their own rights to bring in better deals through Fancurve than what others could.

This is certainly one to watch over the coming months and years as a new era certainly begins.
