Gary Lineker pokes fun at Lucas Digne in Everton Premier League loss v Aston Villa

Gary Lineker joked about Lucas Digne after he scored an own goal in Aston Villa’s 2-1 win against Everton in the Premier League.

The Toffees appeared to be heading for a 2-0 defeat before the Frenchman put the ball into the back of his own net to make it a nervy end to the game.

However, the Villains managed to hold on, but this did not stop the statisticians from crunching the numbers as Digne scored an own goal for Everton against Villa last season.

Richard Jolly wrote, “Lucas Digne has scored for Everton while playing for Aston Villa this season and scored for Aston Villa while playing for Everton last season.”

To which Lineker responded on Twitter, “Great stat. A first?”

Shocking

Digne was one of the best players for the Toffees but he hasn’t quite kicked on at Villa Park.

Many fans opposed Rafa Benitez’s sale of the Frenchman, but in hindsight, it’s proven to be the right call.

Vitaliy Mykolenko has been solid at left wing-back and Ruben Vinagre will also be a decent acquisition to this side.

Regarding the performance against Villa, it was another shocking one and they needed to pick up something from it.

However, they were second best in every department and they desperately need to sign a striker sooner rather than later.

Hopefully, Conor Coady and James Tarkowski continue to command this team from the back because they’re in dire need of some leadership and organisation as they’ve looked all over the place.
