Chelsea considering player swap offer to sign Everton forward Anthony Gordon – Fabrizio Romano

Chelsea are considering making a player swap offer to Everton for Anthony Gordon after having a £40m bid rejected on Sunday, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Toffees were offered £42m including add-ons by the 2021 Champions League winners for the England Under-21 international but rejected the bid, valuing the player at around £50m.

But with Frank Lampard interested in several Chelsea players this summer the Blues are now considering including some players in the deal to get it over the line, according to Romano on his personal Twitter account.

“Chelsea are discussing internally of new proposal for Anthony Gordon as opening bid worth £40m has been rejected by Everton today [Sunday],” he said.

“Chelsea could try to include players in the deal as Frank Lampard wanted more than one CFC player this summer.”

Everton have been linked with moves for Conor Gallagher, Armando Broja, Ross Barkley, Michy Batshuayi, Billy Gilmour, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Levi Colwill from Chelsea this summer.

Better

Selling Gordon for £50m seems inevitable now because of the way that Chelsea have gone about their business this summer, but that isn’t necessarily a good thing for Everton.

Right now the club are still struggling to replace Richarlison having sold him for £60m back in June, so there’s little confidence that the club would be able to replace Gordon as well with just two weeks remaining in the transfer window.

So being able to bring in a couple of players or a player plus cash that Lampard wants would be a better deal for the team currently, because relegation becomes a real danger if they don’t replace the attackers.

The ideal scenario would see Lampard able to bring in several players as a replacement, with Broja, Gallagher and Hudson-Odoi top of the list in terms of what the club need.

But reports suggest Batshuayi could be the man to arrive with Lampard already “validating his profile” according to Sacha Tavolieri, and whether that’s a good thing or not remains to be seen.
