Everton reject £43m bid from Chelsea for Anthony Gordon
Everton have rejected a bid worth £43m including add-ons from Chelsea for forward Anthony Gordon, according to the Evening Standard and Nathan Gissing.
The 2021 Champions League winners put together a bid for the England Under-21 international and submitted it on Sunday afternoon, but Everton responded immediately and rejected the offer.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, Everton value Gordon at £50m and Chelsea have not been put off by the valuation with talks between the two clubs continuing.
They say that Chelsea see Gordon as a potential understudy for Reece James, who plays as a right wing-back in Thomas Tuchel’s 3-4-3 system at Stamford Bridge.
Discussions are set to continue between the two clubs, with personal terms not expected to be a problem.
Everton already rejected a bid from Newcastle earlier in the window, and have been planning to offer him a new long-term contract at the club following interest.
Oh no
Oh dear, this looks like it’s not going to end well for anyone that’s a Toffee or associated with the club.
Gordon is the great hope of this football club, especially after the sale of Richarlison and with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s persistent injury issues over the last 18 months.

But with the current financial situation at the club impossible to ignore, making a potential £50m profit on an academy graduate who only broke into the first-team last season is something that probably can’t be ignored.
If the bid comes in it’ll be incredibly difficult for the club to reject, but also fans will surely understand the position they’re in and while it will be disappointing it will be understandable.
With that said though, unless they bring in replacements for both him and Richarlison before the transfer window ends then there is serious danger of relegation come May 2023 regardless of what they’ve done in the market already.
