Everton reject Newcastle United bid for Anthony Gordon
Everton have rejected an offer for an undisclosed amount from Newcastle United for winger Anthony Gordon, according to iNews.
The Magpies have been keen to strengthen their attack and had identified 22-year-old Gordon as an ideal target due to Everton’s financial concerns this summer.
But while interest had been reported and talks had been held, a report on August 1st claims that a bid was actually made but rejected by the board earlier in the window.
“The Magpies are working with the parameters of financial fair play and are struggling to land their top targets, with offers for Everton’s Anthony Gordon and Jack Harrison of Leeds both turned down,” the report said.
Everton have no intention of selling Gordon this summer and are planning to offer him a brand new contract with improved terms to show his new standing in the team.
We knew there had been talks of a transfer and we knew that the club had told Newcastle and Tottenham that they weren’t interested in a sale.
But until the club actually turn down cold, hard cash for their player there is always the possibility that they get tempted to take the money and run.
So hearing that they were given an offer and turned it down, clearly with enough vigour that Newcastle were given a clear message that there is no point returning with another bid is great news.
Gordon proved his importance to the Everton team last season with impressive displays to help the team avoid relegation, and he was rewarded with the number 10 shirt for this season and a starting spot in attack.
Fans will be delighted that he is sticking around for another year at least and if the club can agree a new deal with him quickly then it will only add to the good feeling around the club currently heading into the new season.
