Chelsea make informal contact to sign of Everton star Anthony Gordon as £45m update emerges

Chelsea are going in hard for Everton attacker Anthony Gordon after making a £45million approach for the 21-year-old, according to The Mirror.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on Tuesday (16 August, back page and page 48) that Gordon wants to quit Goodison Park this summer, indicating to Frank Lampard that he’s keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

It seems that Gordon has had his head turned by the Londoners, with The Mirror claiming that they’ve made “informal contact” with the attacker’s representatives.

It is understood that Chelsea are ready to offer Gordon “lucrative” personal terms but their opening £40million offer had been turned down.

Everton want £50million but Thomas Tuchel’s club are now getting closer to that with a £45million bid on the horizon.

This is hard to stomach.

Gordon is an Everton lad who’s performing really well for the club and playing every week as one of the first names on Lampard’s team sheet.

And he’s willing to quit all that to sit on Chelsea’s bench?

We’re really not pleased to see that Chelsea have been in contact with Gordon’s representatives before they’ve had a bid accepted by Everton.

It’s worrying that the young attacker’s head has seemingly been turned by the promise of a big-money deal at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard cannot do his former club any favours and cannot give in to selling Gordon.

We simply won’t replace him with anyone better and he could be worth way more than £50million in a few seasons’ time.

Unfortunately, the fact he hasn’t accepted a new contract offer is worrying and with each passing day, this looks more and more like a deal that’s going to get done.
