Everton goalkeeper Asmir Begovic wanted by Manchester United

Everton goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is attracting interest from Premier League giants Manchester United, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The veteran goalkeeper joined the Toffees in July 2021 when Rafa Benitez was in charge and has made seven appearances for the club establishing himself as the number two keeper.

TalkSPORT have now linked him with a move to the Red Devils, who are “considering a move” for the Goodison number two to be an “experienced understudy” to David De Gea.

Begovic to Man United?

The links come as a shock but if you look at Begovic’s track record and Premier League history, then the transfer rumours make a lot more sense.

The 35-year-old came through the youth ranks at Portsmouth and has played for several teams in England including the likes of Macclesfield, Yeovil, Bournemouth, and Ipswich.

He made his name however during his time at Stoke City, where spent five years and made 174 appearances for the Potters.

In addition to his time in England, he has also had a fantastic international career, making 63 appearances for the Bosnian international team.

During his time in the Premier League, he has established himself as a capable shot stopper and excellent penalty saver at club and international level.

Having now amassed 255 Premier League appearances and 64 clean sheets, it is no surprise why Erik ten Hag has reportedly identified Begovic as their target for De Gea’s understudy at crisis club Man United.
