Everton have their sights set on Napoli midfielder Eljif Elmas

Everton “have their sights set on” Napoli’s 22-year-old attacking midfielder Eljif Elmas according to Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

Di Marzio reported on Thursday 18 August, via his personal website, that Macedonian international will only be sold if an “important offer” is submitted by the Toffees.

Elmas could well be viewed as a replacement for Dele Alli, with the former Tottenham man closing in on a move to Besiktas according to The Daily Mail (19 August).

Not a priority

Elmas is surely not a priority for the Toffees at present with a striker clearly a more pressing concern at Goodison Park.

The Toffees have gone into their first two Premier League fixtures extremely short of forward options and it has cost them dearly.

However, if the club can sort their striking problems in the coming weeks, then Elmas could be a good option to target to replace the outgoing Alli.

At 22, the Napoli midfielder would be a sensible long-term addition for Everton and has displayed his ability to be a goalscoring threat.

He scored seven goals and six assists for the Serie A side in the 2021/22 campaign and looks a far better option than Alli.

The Toffees need to target players who could improve and increase their value at Goodison Park and Elmas does fit the mould of player that Lampard should be targeting.

Everton have shown they aren’t afraid to spend big this summer and they could well do the same on Elmas.

When their striking issues are sorted this could be a transfer to keep an eye on for Evertonians.
