Anthony Gordon is Everton player and that’s it – Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard has stated that he is keen to keep young winger Anthony Gordon at Everton despite reports of links with a move to Chelsea.

Lampard, while talking to the media ahead of the Nottingham Forest, stated that the player has a special connection with the fans and he is very much a part of his project.

“He [Gordon] is an Everton player and that’s it for me,” he said. “I don’t want to talk about hypothetical questions of what might be.

“He’s in the squad for tomorrow, any chats I have with him are private. He has got a huge value to the team and to me.”

Strong words

Everton entered the transfer window knowing that they will have to sign more than a few players with the future of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin remaining uncertain.

While the Brazil international has already left and joined Tottenham Hotspur, the England international is set to stay for at least another season.

As soon as Richalison left the club, there has been a clear lack of goal-scoring threat, more so because Calvert-Lewin has been ruled out for the first six weeks of the season because of an injury and the club have so far failed to sign a replacement for the side’s most prolific goal scorer of the last season.

In such circumstances, letting a player like Gordon leave will be nothing short of catastrophic for Everton and the recent words of Lampard will give the fans a much-needed sigh of relief.

It is important that with so little time left in the transfer window, the Toffees must dig their heels in and keep the player who has ample potential to become one of the best in the league.
