Jonathan Woodgate want Everton to sell Anthony Gordon to Chelsea

Jonathan Woodgate has suggested that Everton should cash in on Anthony Gordon and use the money to reinvest into the squad.

The Toffees have rejected offers from Chelsea for Gordon, with Frank Lampard making it absolutely clear that the player is not for sale.

However, with the club crippled by financial problems, they are struggling to bring in new players, especially strikers before the end of the window.

“It would be a blow to Everton but if you’re getting £50m to then buy again, why not do the deal?” said Woodgate on BBC Radio 5 Live, as relayed by the BBC Sport Website.

“I think £50m for Anthony Gordon would be an incredible deal.”

Dilemma

This is indeed a critical dilemma for the Toffees boss.

Gordon is a fantastic young talent who has become a favourite among the fans, since making a breakthrough last season.

His stick has risen and Chelsea apparently are ready to pay a massive sum to lure him away.

Everton sold Richarlison this summer to Tottenham Hotspur and if they sell Gordon as well, it could give a negative message to the fans.

However, at the moment, the club need more signings to stabilise themselves.

They need a striker, otherwise, they could be in the same problem as last season. They cannot simply rely on Dominic Calvert-Lewin for the entire campaign.

Losing Gordon will be a blow, definitely, but if Everton can sign two or three very good players using that money, Lampard will have a balanced squad at his disposal.

The next few days are very critical for the Toffees. Ideally, Lampard would love to bring in a backup striker on the cheap, but that looks difficult at the moment.
