Clinton Morrison shares Anthony Gordon reaction on Everton bench v Fleetwood

Clinton Morrison has highlighted Anthony Gordon’s positive reaction whilst on the Everton bench during the Toffees’ EFL Cup tie against Fleetwood.

Gordon has been subject to intense transfer speculation, with Sky Sports reporting (23 August), that Chelsea are prepared to pay £60million for the 21-year-old.

The England under-21 international was named on the bench for Frank Lampard’s side in their match at the Highbury Stadium, and Morrison shared that Gordon was smiling and laughing on the bench.

Talking on Sky Sports Gillette Soccer Special [20:32, 23 August], Morrison said: “He looks in really good spirits and is smiling.

“There’s a video of him now with a big smile on his face on the bench but he would have if there was talk of him leaving for £60million.

“Especially if he’s about to quadruple his wages as well.”

All smiles

It may well all be smiles for Gordon at the moment, but Morrison has probably nailed why the Everton man is overly happy whilst being sat on the Everton bench.

It could well be a bad sign that indicates the 21-year-old is close to a move away from Goodison Park.

Gordon appears set on a move to Stamford Bridge and the Toffees will find it extremely hard to turn down the £60million figure that is being thrown around at the moment.

Ultimately, it will be a good move by the Toffees, providing that money is reinvested immediately and smartly into Lampard’s squad.

With the transfer window nearing its end, the club don’t have time to dwell on losing Gordon, with a striker now a pressing priority for Lampard.

If Everton can add a striker and potentially some depth in midfield, then it would’ve been a decent window for the Toffees.

However, with Gordon on the bench and in seemingly good spirits, the club shouldn’t hold out much hope of the 21-year-old staying at Goodison Park.
