Everton cannot spend it seems as they are raided after Financial Fair Play rules

Everton are currently being “raided” by the Financial Fair Play rules this summer, according to Chief Daily Mail writer Martin Samuel.

The reliable journalist has written in the print edition of the newspaper [August 23, pg. 70] that it appears as though the Toffees cannot spend again during this window.

Yet, Chelsea will be in a position where they can raid Goodison Park themselves to sign Anthony Gordon if they so please, despite the claim that club can grow organically within FFP.

“Some will disapprove,” he said. “They will cite the source of Newcastle’s new-found wealth as they once did that of Manchester City. Yet, what is the alternative? Leicester, Everton.

“Clubs that are currently being raided due to the inequalities of FFP. Leicester cannot spend, it seems. Nor Everton. Yet Chelsea can raid them for Wesley Fofana or Anthony Gordon, maybe both. That’s how FFP works.

“The claim is that clubs can grow organically living within their means.”

Joke.

If Chelsea were to snip Gordon away from us over the next week, it would be embarrassing.

It could take their spend up to and beyond £300million if Fofana, Frenkie De Jong and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang arrive too – but yet with the FFP rules sniff around them? We guess not.

Farhad Moshiri has spent over the years and losses have been made, but it’s not as though it hasn’t been sustainable given the fact that the stadium and other resources are being built.

Everton have had to box smart in this transfer window, signing free agents, bringing in loans and likely including many clauses in our deals to sign the likes of Amadou Onana and Dwight McNeil.

It kind of feels that certain Premier League clubs can do what they like, and now it is the likes of Everton and Leicester who are left struggling as this window comes to an end.

Will there be any deadline-busting moves? It may be starting to look more unlikely.
