Everton set to receive huge amount upfront as Chelsea to sign Anthony Gordon
Everton will reportedly be receiving a fee in the region of £40million upfront from Chelsea for Anthony Gordon this month.
According to former Eurosport journalist Dean Jones, the London club are all set to pay top dollar in order to sign the 21-year-old.
The Englishman appears to be keen on moving to Stamford Bridge and playing Champions League football there this season.
Speaking on the Football Terrace, Jones said, “The deal is between £50million and £60million so Everton are clearly winning these negotiations.
“Chelsea will be paying around £40million upfront which is a huge, huge amount.
“I saw too many pundits laughing at it [the valuation]. I don’t think you should laugh at it because Chelsea have two ways of signing players – obvious players like Koulibaly, Sterling and then the ones between 18-20.
“Gordon’s kind of a mix of the two. He’s not really the finished article. He doesn’t even have a specific or defined role.”
Daylight robbery
Everton are undoubtedly the clear winners in this deal even if it means losing one of their key players.
Gordon is not likely to be worth that amount any time soon and he may even have a decline in form over the coming years.
It’s important to strike when the iron is hot, especially for a team like the Toffees who are in a big financial crisis.
They can use this money they’re receiving up front to strengthen the first team and sign two players that will be an upgrade on the current eleven.
One of them will be a replacement for Gordon and they’re already lining up an official bid with talks opened over the deal.
Another one could be in midfield or signing a central striker and it will be down to where Frank Lampard thinks his side will need to be strengthened.
