Everton winger Anthony Gordon transfer situation ‘heating up’ – Dean Jones

Journalist Dean Jones has reported that the situation regarding the future of Everton winger Anthony Gordon is “heating up” in the final week of the window.

The 21-year-old is highly rated in the football community and has been attracting interest from a number of big clubs in the country including Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Blues are looking the keener to sign Gordon before the end of the ongoing transfer window to bolster the attacking department and have already seen a bid rejected from the Toffees [Sky Sports].

However, Jones, while talking to Give Me Sport, said that the next few days are crucial regarding the future of the star winger.

“The Gordon situation is heating up,” he said. “I think we’ll know in the next few days if Chelsea can make the necessary breakthrough.

“Pulisic could go, Hudson-Odoi will probably go, Ziyech will go… the door is open for new faces. Gordon is not the only player they are looking at though.”

Too important

Everton entered the transfer window knowing that they had to sign a player or two to replace one of Richarlison or Dominic Calvert-Lewin but so far they’ve had no luck despite already losing one of them to Spurs earlier in the season.

With less than 10 days remaining in the transfer window, it is important that manager Frank Lampard must put his foot down and ensure that a player of Gordon’s quality will not leave Goodison Park, no matter how good the offer is because it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a replacement for such a talent, especially when the club have not been able to find a striker despite searching it all summer.

Gordon is an academy product of the Merseyside club and was promoted to the senior team in January 2020.

Since then, the England U21 international has represented the Toffees in 63 matches across all competitions where he managed to score four times and provided eight assists in the process [Transfermarkt].
