Everton now in talks with Tottenham over Dele Alli settlement ahead of Besiktas move

Dele Alli’s move to Besiktas is being held up as Everton are in talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a settlement, according to Fanatik.

The 26-year-old was allowed to leave North London for free on deadline day during the January transfer window but Spurs did insert a clause which would see the Toffees pay £10million for every 20 appearances up to £40million.

But the England international has only played 13 times for Everton so there has not been any money exchanged between the two Premier League clubs.

As a result, Besiktas are being made to wait to finalise the move and if no agreement is reached between the two clubs, then the move could easily collapse altogether.

He was due to be announced at Vodafone Park Arena on Sunday when the Black and Whites played Faith Karagumruk but he was instead an unused substitute against Nottingham Forest the day before.

Tough

Tottenham signed off on the deal and knew the parameters set out so they don’t have a leg to stand on here unless they have inserted an exit clause of some description.

As soon as the signatures were etched into the paper, Alli was no longer connected to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Everton could do whatever they saw fit with him on the pitch.

The Toffees should not be under any obligation to pay anything to their Premier League rivals because the 20 appearance mark was not met and that should be that.

If Fabio Paratici didn’t want to get burned then he should have been more vigilant in his transfer dealings and not allowed him to leave for free in the middle of his contract.

He can now suck up the problems and should be allowing Kevin Thelwell to execute Alli’s final exit from Goodison Park rather than scrambling for money that Everton are not obligated to part with.
