Alan Myers: Everton unlikely to sign Idrissa Gueye this week
Alan Myers does not see Everton making an official announcement to sign Idrissa Gueye this week with the move not yet finalised.
The Toffees are still keen on bringing the midfielder back to the club, but that move is not understood to be the priority, as things stand.
The 32-year-old is understood to have second thoughts about returning to the club and he’s still not 100 per cent guaranteed to move to Merseyside.
Via Twitter, Myers wrote, “It’s still bubbling away in the background, I don’t see it happening till at least next week but let’s see.”
Move on
Everton do need another midfielder this summer but Gueye is not going to offer them a long-term solution and they’re better of looking elsewhere.
If there was a keenness on his side, this deal would’ve been concluded at least a week ago and delays only mean that he’s keeping his options open.
There is no point of bringing in a player who sees a move to Goodison Park as his last resort as there are plenty others who would love to move to Merseyside and play in the Premier League.
Whoever that player is, must be signed as soon as possible and in time for the weekend fixture as the Toffees desperately need bodies in midfield.
Alex Iwobi’s resurgence has seen Lampard been blessed with another option but he still would like a midfielder and attacker through the door sooner rather than later.
They’ve already delayed their quest to sign Richarlison’s replacement and cannot let this go on any further.
