Everton refuse to sell Asmir Begovic amid Manchester United interest
Everton have refused to sell backup goalkeeper Asmir Begovic this summer with no obvious replacement available, according to Alex Crook.
The 35-year-old only joined the Toffees last summer to provide competition and, more importantly, cover for Jordan Pickford at Goodison Park along with Andy Lonergan.
But the Bosnian international was the subject of surprise interest from Manchester United as Erik Ten Hag looks to find an extra shot-stopper behind David De Gea and alongside Tom Heaton.
United’s interest appears to have been pushed away by Everton though who don’t need the extra hassle of finding a goalkeeper at such short notice with only days left of the transfer window.
“MUFC (Manchester United) were also interested in Asmir Begovic but EFC (Everton) were not willing to let him go with no obvious replacement,” Crook said via his personal Twitter account.
Underrated
Begovic may have only played seven games in all competitions last season but he is a much better goalkeeper than many give him credit for just because he is the number two right now.
For a good half of the teams in the Premier League right now, the Bosnian international could easily be the main man between the sticks and he is not far off Pickford either.

It is just a shame for him that Frank Lampard has one of the division’s best goalkeepers at his disposal because the rest of the side is nowhere near that status.
But the Toffees are absolutely right to deny him the exit because he won’t play at Old Trafford either other than perhaps a Carabao Cup tie.
He’s already doing that on Merseyside and Everton are not as active as United in the transfer market of goalkeepers so unless the Red Devils want to make a huge offer, there is no reason for the club to sell.
