Sky Sports pundit accepts Everton exit for Anthony Gordon to sign ‘killer’ goal scorer
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
If Everton decide to “cash in” on young star Anthony Gordon to fund the search for a “killer in the box” Kevin Campbell fully understands.
Chelsea have far surpassed previous attempts from Tottenham and Newcastle to land the Goodison winger, with their most recent bid totalling £60million in value, and the previously unthinkable exit of the local boy is looking increasingly real.
But with the biggest thing missing in this Everton squad since Richarlison left and Dominic Calvert-Lewin got injured is a genuine goal scorer, and despite being in for multiple targets over recent weeks it is proving elusive for the club to land someone, leaving Sky Sports pundit Campbell fully on board if they choose to take big money for their developing player to buy what they desperately need.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News he said: “Everton have addressed some of their issues. But probably the most important one is the top end of the pitch, that goalscorer.
“You need somebody, because you can see when Calvert-Lewin isn’t there Everton are good with the approach play, they are decent, but they lack that killer in the box.
“They lack that know-how. Gordon’s a good player, [Demarai] Gray’s a good player, Dwight McNeil. You can name the names, they’re all decent but they’re not the killer.
“That’s what Everton need, so £60million for Gordon, if I’m honest with you, if Everton say, ‘Right, we’re going to cash in on him and we’re going to go and get someone,’ I totally understand that.
“Let’s be honest, Anthony Gordon’s a good young player, yeah he’s got a bright future, but he’s nowhere near the finished article.
“Everton need it now. Everton haven’t got time to be messing around. So I understand if they decided to cash in.
“£60million is a lot of money. How old is Gordon? That is a lot of money. I think they want to make sure they get him.”

If it means a top level striker comes in then fans will likely stomach the loss of the latest homegrown hero, considering Chelsea are approaching silly money for a player who has not finished developing.
Salomon Rondon has offered a presence up top at least since he came back from suspension, but Frank Lampard’s side are still struggling for goals.
Calvert-Lewin’s return from injury cannot be relied on since his luck of late means a new one can never be ruled out, so the Toffees are ultimately going to have to do whatever it takes to find more players who can put the ball away.
