Anthony Gordon seemingly says goodbye to Everton fans after 1-1 draw v Brentford

Anthony Gordon applauded the travelling Everton fans, gave them a wave goodbye and threw his shirt in the crowd after the 1-1 draw v Brentford.

The winger scored his first goal of the season with a good left-footed finish from inside the box, but Everton couldn’t hold on for all three points and instead were forced to settle for a draw at the Brentford Community Stadium.

But after the game Gordon, who has reportedly been the subject of a £60m bid from Chelsea, seemed to give a hint as to his future when he ensured he gave the fans something to remember him by.

Sky Sports journalist Ben Grounds shared a photo on his personal Twitter account of Gordon sharing a moment with the fans, and speculated that it could be the final game of his Everton career ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Everton play again on Tuesday night when they take on Leeds at Goodison Park, but whether Gordon will still be around then is currently unclear.

Crazy

This is a crazy, crazy situation to be in at this point of the season and transfer window, especially for a club like Everton in the position we’re currently in.

The club is desperate for cash to come in to help them strengthen their squad for the season, but their only saleable asset is their best player and losing him would undoubtedly make the squad weaker.

So it’s a fine case to balance for the club, especially considering the stage of the window we’re currently in and the little time they would have to be able to replace him.

With that said though, the player looks completely focused and is still turning out top performances and earning the club points, so fans are likely to be happy either way this deal goes now.

If the money comes in the club must spend to replace him adequately, and after today it now seems that Gordon’s mind could already be made up about what he wants to do before Thursday night.
