Everton block Manchester United’s move for Asmir Begovic

Everton have blocked Manchester United’s move for Asmir Begovic, as per TalkSport.

Alex Crook wrote for TalkSport on 26 August that the Toffees do not want to sell the 35-year-old this summer, after they failed in their attempt to find a solid replacement.

The Red Devils earmarked him as an option to provide back-up for David de Gea.

Dean Henderson has joined Nottingham Forest on loan, and the Red Devils are keen to land an experienced defender.

They have now turned their attention toward signing Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Good decision

Jordan Pickford remains the first-choice goalkeeper at the club, but Begovic is definitely a reliable back-up option.

While he didn’t play enough games last season, it’s good to have him on the side. He has got a wealth of experience, and it makes sense for the club to keep him.

Meanwhile, as we enter the final week of the summer transfer window, all eyes will be on what Everton do next with Anthony Gordon.

Chelsea have had two bids rejected and they are likely to push for another move, probably meeting the asking price set by the Toffees.

In such a scenario, they need to sign replacements. If they manage to get £60m for Gordon, the Toffees will be in a position to sign one or two quality players, although time could be a big factor here.

The Toffees have done well this summer, and they have finally landed a striker. It remains to be seen whether they can add more players to their squad before the end of the window.
